Vintage Weltklang Tenor Saxophone On eBay
Anyone who has looked at my website for more than a minute, or read more than a couple of my articles, will recognize that I have a predilection for vintage saxophones. In particular, I am fascinated with brands that are on the more obscure end of the vintage saxophone spectrum.
During this morning’s trip through eBay ads, I happened to come across a silver-plated,vintage Weltklang tenor that looked interesting. The seller is not a player, so can offer up very little actual information about the horn. However, the photos tell quite a lot of the story.

The sax has mother of pearl key touches of the left pinkie cluster and left palm keys.

This mother of pearl treatment continues of course on the right side keys. The horn also has the additional high Eb as well as the G# trill keys. In this photo you can also see the sax’s rolled tone holes.

This particular neck brace seems to have been added after the fact. It does not appear stock.

The screw that holds the neck in the socket is missing.

Here is how the horn is described by the seller:
VINTAGE WELTKLANG TENOR SAX is in good cosmetic condition for its age. It has some scratches, dings, dents, wear marks ( see pixs). I’m not a saxophone player and I don’t know too much about this instrument. This sax come to me from a public storage auction, so I’m selling it AS IS no refunds, no exchanges. Please ask questions before bidding.
The auction for the vintage, East German sax ends on July 22. At the time of writing there was 1 bid of $250.00 on the horn.

Update: When the auction ended there were 5 bids on this horn. The high bid, that won the horn, was for $305.00.
good price. Have one myself. Not in silver but almost the same serial number. These are good & sturdy instruments, at least these old ones (end fiftees) with these guards for the keys (see picture)
Big sound like the american vintage horns… underestimated
Carlo
Hi carlo. Welcome to my site.
Yes, there are many of these European saxes that are quite underestimated. Everyone is so caught up in brand name recognition, that sometimes very good lesser known horns are overlooked.
I have some amazing pictures of a beautifully restored & refinished full pearl Weltklang tenor that were sent to me by the new owner a few months ago. He’s a member of the Woodwind Forum, which is where he heard about the sax, when one of the other Moderators (not me) posted a link to the eBay listing.
I have been meaning to write the horn’s history, as we know it to date, since it is quite interesting. I have before and after restoration pictures. The transformation was remarkable. It is quite possibly the most beautiful vintage sax I’ve ever seen.
Thanks for dropping in. Hope to see you again.
Helen
PS: Did you happen to see the Weltklang bari for sale in Paris?
